Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Quote of the Day – October 19, 2019

“I discovered later, and I’m still discovering right up to this moment, that is it only by living completely in this world that one learns to have faith. By this-worldliness I mean living unreservedly in life’s duties, problems, successes and failures. In so doing we throw ourselves completely into the arms of God, taking seriously, not our own sufferings, but those of God in the world. That, I think, is faith.”

Yes, I do believe God suffers when, given free will, people choose hate instead of love. I do believe He suffers when His creation is decimated. When we enter fully into His Creation, we understand and feel His suffering – and hopefully, we are motivated to work with God to create His peace in earth and to preserve His beauty. I love this thoughtful quote by Boenhoffer.
